How to Choose the Right Chandelier Size

A simple rule is to add the length and width of the room in feet and use that number in inches as the chandelier width. A 12 ft by 14 ft room, for example, suits a chandelier about 26 inches wide.

How High Should a Chandelier Hang?

Over a dining table, hang the bottom of the chandelier about 30 to 34 inches above the table top. In living rooms and walkways, keep at least 7 ft of clear height below it so no one walks into it. In double-height halls, the chandelier can hang lower, roughly level with the first floor, so it is seen from both floors.
